Why is rape a problem in India?

Women have been given a respectable position in all the civilizations come so far. They have acquired notable designations and have taken part in religious rituals and yajnas performed during the Aryan phase along with men. They had the right to study all subjects and were taught art, literature, astronomy, and even the use of weapons in fighting. They stood equally in the social circle concerning men. They ruled the kingdoms for ages, fought the battles, and anyhow they were  "respected".

But what has happened now, is the scenario has completely changed, the increasing westernization is bringing a boon in the educational and career development space but is clashing with the Indian thoughts and beliefs. The social evil practices that started after the later Vedic Age is a proof of this. Sati, child marriage, female infanticide, rapes, sexual harassment, and child bullying are unethical that are drowning this.

Rapes have turned out to be one of the major issues concerning women. They are kidnapped, scratched, and pulled into the worst phase of livelihood. Their body is merely treated as a soft toy or as catapult. Isn't it alarming? But what is the cause of this, who is the real culprit, or who should be responsible for it? Let's find out!

As per the 2019 annual report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 88 cases were registered in India every single day, which when compared to 2018 was 91 cases which was slightly lower than that. Not only this the statistics of the NCRB also claim that every 16 minutes a girl is raped in India and every 4 minutes woman or a girl experiences cruel violence may be in form of torture, (mental or physical), rapes, bullying, acid attacks, etc. This statistic is shocking, isn't it? The cases take a long time to resolve some are justified whereas some files are kept back in the cupboards. The thing is not that they are justified or not, but the thing is that a girl's entire life, her dreams her every single thought are murdered and frozen to death along with her.

Now the thing is who is responsible?  Is it the boys who brutally rape girls and murder or is it the girls who themselves are responsible for this? Before this let's know a few points more on this. In 2017 in Mumbai, a 13-year-old was raped in Powai and another 16-year-old schoolboy was continuously raped for a year by 10-15 boys who raped and blackmailed him. Not only this, many rapes cases are registered to a wider extent all over the world not only in India. This fact speaks that not only girls but even boys are not safe. They are also at a complete risk, so know whom to blame for all this. The real culprit is the media, the media shows and demonstrates those shimmering shows which are not meant for the children and the youngsters. In a country like India where rape is the fourth most common crime, the adult content and flawless talks disturb the inner peace of the youth. Dependence on mobiles, long hours of scrolling on social media, and watching adult content is indeed the worst thing. India is the third country where adult content is watched and of which 35% of traffic comes from the age group 12-19 years of children.

This is not just a problem but something that we see in the newspapers, and news channels sob and sit back. Walking out on the roads with a candle cannot be a solution, that's just a temporary relief.  Peace can be found and the fear in the girl's mind will be free when these alarming ratios will be reduced to null. Fighting with one another will not help in resolving this issue, this is a very big fight that can only be fought through correct knowledge, walking on the right path, and perseverance.
