A very common and lots medicinal properties loaded plant is neem. Native to the Indian subcontinent and most parts of the African continent =. Its scientific name is Azadirachta indica, the common name being neem or the Indian lilac. It is the species of the Azadirachta family. It belongs to the family of medicine and is of the Sapindales order. it is a tall tree that extends to the height of 15-20m and in minute cases up to the height of more than 35m. It is a deciduous tree, which sheds its leaves in winter. The neem tree is found similar to the Bakain tree which has similar-looking fruits and leaflets. The major difference between the two is that neem leaves are pinnate whereas the bakain leaves are twice or thrice pinnate. Neem is also found similar to Chinaberry (Melia azederach) commonly known as an umbrella tree. Due to the similarity between Chinaberry and Neem that is why neem is said to be "Chinaberry's Miraculous Cousin".
USES:
- Neem leaves are kept in cupboards between the clothes to prevent their decay due to insects.
- kept in rice tines to protect them from being eaten by the insects.
- Shoots and flowers of this tree are eaten as a part of the diet in India.
- Pickled neem leaves are eaten in Myanmar with tomatoes.
- It is used as a medicine in India for centuries. Neem tablets and syrups with the composition of neem are promoted and launched as a brand product by many companies for radiant and glowing skin and to prevent scars ad pimples.
PRECAUTION
- Neem oil is toxic and may even lead to death if taken by mouth internally, especially in children. It may even lead to damage to the kidneys, and liver, resulting in infertility, and miscarriages. Therefore, it should not be consumed orally.
BENEFITS:
- Neem leaf is useful for curing diseases like :
- Leprosy
- Eye defects
- Fever
- Diabetes(for lowering the blood sugar level)
- liver problems
- skin ulcers
SIDE EFFECTS:
- Should be avoided if you are trying for children as it reduces fertility and harms the sperm.
- Consumption of neem can also result in giving less effective results of the medical doses intake by the person.
- Should be avoided by those diabetic patients who are already taking medicines for lowering their blood sugar levels. As it might decrease to a very much extent.
DOSAGE:
Depends on age, health factors, and other conditions. No such recommendations are delivered and defined yet which determines a fixed ratio to take. But taking neem or any product of neem must be first consulted by a recommended physician or any health expert before consuming.
Neem can be consumed empty stomach to get enriched with its benefits.
